Bettors and modellers
Closing lines and the play-by-play underneath them, in one place
Moneyline, spread and totals from four books with opening and closing snapshots, alongside the shot data to model against them.
Odds without the underlying performance data is a betting history, not a model. Performance data without the closing line gives you no way to know whether an edge was real or already priced.
Holding both usually means two vendors, two schemas and a join you maintain forever.
What to build
Test a model against the closing line
Pull closing odds for a season, pair them with your own projections, and check calibration against the number the market settled on. Closing line value is the only honest scoreboard for a model.
Find where the market and the shot data disagree
Compare a team's expected-goals differential with its market prices over a stretch. Sustained gaps are where an edge lives, if one exists.
Goalie-driven line movement
Starting goalies move hockey lines more than any other input. Pull who actually started with their time on ice, and the snapshots either side.
What it will not do
- Odds are historical snapshots, not a live feed. There is no in-play pricing.
- Four books carry dependable coverage — DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM and ESPN BET. Another 62 appear incidentally and cannot carry a continuous series.
- Starting goalies are derived from play-by-play, so they are available for games that have been played, not for tonight's slate.
